My Epic Reviews of the 52s! (PART TWO)

Green Lantern #1

So apparently Sinestro is the Green Lantern in Hal's sector of the universe for reasons I'll never understand. Reading this book you discover that Hal has been demoted so to speak and had his ring taken from him by the Guardians. However, the ring then chooses Sinestro, and the Guardians actually allow him to keep it! So during this issue, one of the things I LOVED was Hal trying to get a normal job to pay his rent and such. People know he is, or was, the Green Lantern but it's because of that reason they won't hire him! It's funny but sad at the same time. By the time this issue is over you see that Hal is about to lose his apartment and can't even get a car on his own without assistance, which he tries to get but fails miserably at getting from what seems to be a former Blue Lantern. At the end of the issue you see Sinestro come right to Hal's apartment and offer him some kind of ultimatum so that he might be able to  get his ring back. This definitely was a good read even though, like most of these books, they don't explain anything prior to it. This gets 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Nightwing #1

Nightwing aka Dick Grayson is no longer Batman in Gotham. I was happy for this on two levels. The first was I've always liked Nightwing as the man he built up to be DESPITE the influence of being Robin and living in the shadow of Batman for years. It was good to see him back out as himself and not just a substitute for someone like Batman who can never really be substituted. Dick's old circus family comes to town and he decides to give them a visit but ends up getting attacked by this lunatic with wannabe Wolverine-like blades. The thing I enjoyed about this read was that it did what the old Nightwing series did and explained in detail why Nightwing is and always will be DIFFERENT from Batman. In this issue Dick even explains why he chose the area of the city he chose to live in and how he's always disagreed on living where Bruce does in regards to the city. I'll always have a special place for Nightwing in my heart and I really feel iike this series is going to re-establish him in the DCU. He deserves nothing less. This one gets 5 out of 5 stars from me!

Batman & Robin #1

This one was a great read because you see a different side of Bruce as Batman than ever before. As you know or may not know, his son Damian, whose mother is Talia Al Ghul is the new Robin. The relationship is a strained one to say the least because Bruce as Batman is very strict and exact about how he wants done and when he wants them done. Damian, being skilled at a higher level than perhaps any Robin before him as a result of being trained by the best the world has to offer in terms of warriors via his mother and grandfather. While Bruce is trying to establish the respect that he feels he deserves as a father as well as the leader of their team, Damian is pushing for the trust he earned from Dick but unfortunately for him doesn't translate over to his father. The dynamic between father and son is definitely something to behold. I had a great time reading this one. This gets 5 out of 5 from me!

Detective Comics # 1

I've got to admit it, but DC knocked the ball out of the park with Detective Comics #1. While it featured Batman and his arch nemesis the Joker, it went into fine detail about just how dangerous the Joker is and how much of a struggle it is to not only find him but get him in cuffs. For the most part Batman is hot on the tail of the Clown Prince of Crime only to have slip through his fingers in the end. However, during this read you'll see so many more seeds planted for mysteries in this book you'll be hooked.

I guarantee you'll be hooked...ESPECIALLY with the way the issue ends. Without a shadow of a doubt it's going to be 5 out of 5 stars!
