Let me introduce myself.
Who am I? I have many names but you may call me the Phoenix Pharaoh for all intents and purposes. Why would I use my real name that I use in everyday life? It's boring and unimaginative and uncreative. That is not how I roll.
Alittle background on me....I'm gonna be 30th on August 28th. I could go on and on about what I like and what I don't like but let's keep it simple. I am a LIFE TIME comic book fan. I have two Batman tattoos. Nuff Said! I'm one of the nerds you see at the Comic Cons. I'm one of the guys who actually knows what storylines comic book movies use for the plot foundations. I'm one of those guys who through thick and thin have and will always be a comic book fan. HOWEVER I am not an idiot like it seems many of the "Powers That Be" in the big name comic book companies seem to believe.
I know some of you out there are wondering...."What the HELL is he talking about!?" Well what I am talking about is the REBOOTING of numerous DC Comic titles in the upcoming months. Yes. DC Comics will be rebooting many titles such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Batgirl, etc. For those who are not aware of what exactly that means, I will explain. Essentially what DC Comics is going to do is erase countless past events and character histories all in the name of gaining new readers. I don't know about anyone else but this is an outrage from many perspectives. I am just sick and tired and tired and sick of the "Powers That Be" over in the corporate offices of DC Comics not giving a damn about readers like me. They just think that I am loyal to a fault. They think I will blindly buy and support whatever they do no matter how nonsensical or illogical. Well, what they THINK is DEAD WRONG.
I will not stand by while they erase priceless historical moments in comic book history in the name of the almighty dollar. That's right. I said it. The only reason they are doing what they are doing is because they want to make more money. They figure the long time readers will keep reading to find out where these new storylines and plots go and the new readers will be intrigued enough to jump on to some of these new titles. The amount of disrespect I feel that I am reaching makes me sick to my stomach. Way to go DC Comics! Thanks for being the WWE of the comic book industry! For those who don't follow professional wrestling, you haven't missed anything for the last decade because Vince McMahon has all but ruined professional wrestling in America. Now DC Comics is doing the same to their characters for all of us long, long time, readers in the name of greed.
Why in the HELL would you have Barbara Gordon become Batgirl after 20 years in a wheelchair and 20 years of character evolution. It's like...it's like taking a woman and then having her act like a 15 year old when she's really 29! How is that progression!? That is BACKWARDS progression! Now what becomes of the current Batgirl!? It's so ridiculous that even a mentally challenged individual would not be able to make sense of it! After having Dick Grayson take over the cape and cowl in the absence of Bruce Wayne he just "goes back" to being NightWing? I hope there is one hell of an explanation.
These are just some of the changes going on in DC Comics that I do not agree and refuse to support them buy forking out my hard earned cash to read half baked storylines and plots that don't pan out or make sense and never were INTENDED to! When the goal of the writers and editors become to make money instead of thinking of the readers who give them jobs in the first place there is a BIG TIME problem! In closing, I take these offenses personally because all of these characters they are handling can not speak for themselves. WE, the readers and the fans, MUST be the voice of Superman, Batman, Batgirl, Supergirl, The Flash, The Green Lantern, and on and on and on! We must be the voice of the characters we so love and have a special place in our hearts, minds, and lives. No they are not REAL people but what they represent for us as individuals people and readers is VERY REAL! To tamper with the fabric of their being, their origins, and their history is something I take personally and in my book so should every damn person who calls themselves a comic book fan. If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything. So STAND UP for the heroes you love to read about because if they tables were turned wouldn't they do the same for you?
I agree with you. While, I only read certain DC titles, a good number of them will be cancelled because of this reboot.
ReplyDeletePowergirl - Cancelled. There is no room in new DC for superman's cousin from an alternate earth. I can understand this to a point, since we have supergirl, there's no need for Powergirl. But dam, this one was a fave of mine.
Supergirl - Rebooted. Being the Supergirl mark that I am, ill have to give this reboot a shot.
Zatanna - Cancelled. Paul Dini was kicking ass writing this ongoing series. Not sure of the plans for Zatanna in New DC world.
T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents - Cancelled. This sucks, I was really getting into this new series. An interesting take on an old series.
Birds of Prey - Rebooted. Gail Simone is not writing, so why bother?
Batgirl - Rebooted with Barbara as batgirl. LIke Phoenix mentioned above, Barbara will now take over as Batgirl. This sucks!!! Stephanie Brows was stepping into the role nicely for the last 2 years, and now it's taken away from her. Bull caca!
Thank god my vertigo books will go untouched.
